SAVE THE DATE: St George's Day Charity Beer Festival - 23rd April 2016

Some of you may have seen a picture of our friends Richard and Louise Ferriman with their beautiful family this week on the front of the Maidenhead Advertiser.

Sadly George, their three year old was diagnosed on Monday, February 15 with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia (AML), which affects around 100 children in the United Kingdom and is an extremely rare cancer disease.

He is receiving treatment at Birmingham Children’s Hospital, meaning his parents Louise and Richard are forced to split their time between there and looking after their three other children Henry, 1, Charlie, 11, and Isabelle, 8.

George has just finished his first round of chemotherapy and lost all his beautiful blond locks of hair. He has to take 15 oral medicines a day, have blood tests and undergo blood transfusions every three days. His family are hoping he can be moved to a nearby hospital for his second round.

His mum Louise said: “We want to raise awareness for all the cancer charities that have supported us and encourage people to give blood and sign up for the bone marrow register list. https://bethematch.org/

“George is relying on blood transfusions to keep him alive, and now he is just starting to lose his hair which is quite a big thing for him.”

Charities which offer support include CLIC Sargent, Ronald McDonald House Charities and Theodora Children’s Charity.

A number of events around Cookham are taking place in support of George:

  • March 13th - Charity Pub Quiz & Auction at the White Oak
  • March 26th Kids Easter Fun Day at The Old Bell, Wooburn Green.
  • April 3rd - Beauty spa and pamper day at Vanilla hairdressing
  • April 23rd - Strictly George at Pinder Hall.

At the Jolly we wanted to do our bit to help George, so besides giving blood and registering for the bone marrow register, we are going to hold a - Jolly Beer Festival on St George's Day - with our friends from Rebellion Brewery and 50p from every pint will be donated to cancer charities helping George.

There will be other announcements about the day nearer the time with activities for kids. So please spread the word and come and support us raise as much money as we can for George.

Thank you. #fightforgeorge.
