COOKHAM PARISH COUNCIL

Could you spare a few hours to help keep Cookham moving during the next flood emergency?

The Parish Council are currently updating the Community Flood Plan. It has now been agreed that when all three access roads into Cookham village are closed, The Causeway will be opened to allow supervised access for pedestrians and vehicles to enter and leave the village.

This Access Operation will be managed by RBWM using Amey, their Highways contractor.

As part of the Parish Council’s commitment to facilitate this operation, we are hoping to build a roster of volunteers who can join Councillors in providing support to RBWM and Amey in maintaining this vital service for residents and businesses. The Odney Club and Chartered Institute of Marketing have also committed to providing assistance by their staff when possible.

The role of the Community Volunteers will mainly be to answer questions from the public e.g. about opening times, shuttle bus services and inform the public on operating procedures. Volunteers will also guide pedestrians swiftly across The Causeway at the appropriate times and should therefore be people who are comfortable dealing with the public and happy to work outside, even in cold and inclement weather.

All community volunteers will be given a one hour training course.

There will be an informal meeting during September when more specific details of the areas of activity will be explained.

If you would be interested in more information or would like to add your name to the list of Community Volunteers, please contact the Clerk on 01628 522003 or cookhamparishcouncil@outlook.com
