Kankhal Medical Aid

o      set up in 1992 to support creation of the maternity and women’s wards in a new wing of a men’s only hospital

o      (UK reg.Charity No. 1084554)

o      48 members

o      We have no administrative costs, and the organisation depends on the voluntary services of its members.

o      By organising various functions involving the local community, we have raised and sent money directly to the hospital.

o      Projects supported: women’s ward, maternity and gynaecology facilities, eye and ENT clinics and an operating theatre.

o      Provide funds for antibiotics, drugs for preventing and curing TB, malaria, syphilis etc – all of which are required in large quantities.

 

§        the Ramakrishna Sevasrama Charity Hospital

§        Set up in 1901 as a hospice for the monks and pilgrims who travelled to Hardwar in northern India

o      provides free medical aid to the poor people of the 64 neighbouring villages

o      An average of 200,000 people are treated annually in this hospital

§        150 beds (can be expanded to 170 beds)

§         26 doctors – many as volunteers

 

o      mobile dispensary

§        staffed by a doctor and pharmacist

§        stocked with medicines

·        for both treatment and prevention of diseases

§        covers 50 mile radius

§        on average treats 11,000 people annually

 

Now, the hospital desperately needs to equip an Intensive Care Unit and this is our next focus for fund-raising. The charity would like to appeal to your generosity to reach our target of £10,000 towards this project.
