Art Trail to the Gallery

(with thanks to Mike Copland)

(6 September 2018)

It's September and the Art Trail leads to the Gallery at Elizabeth House

September brings the Cookham & Maidenhead Art Trail to the Gallery at Elizabeth House.  The actual Trail is over the weekend of 17th and 18th September (with works on view in some 30 houses and other venues) but the exhibition at the Gallery will be in place throughout September, starting the 2nd and ending on 30th September.  It's an exhibition called 'Landscape and Friends', displaying the stunning work of the Windsor and Maidenhead Embroiderers’ Guild alongside Martin Dutton, watercolourist.

The Guild's textile artists will be displaying work based largely on the landscape at Blenheim Palace designed by Capability Brown.  His 300th anniversary this year was the inspiration for much of this work which includes pieces by Guild Presidents, Jan Beaney and Jean Littlejohn, and other well known members of the branch. Over the Art Trail weekend 3D work will also be on display including a set of ‘Travelling Books’, a shared sketchbook challenge undertaken by members of the branch.

Complementing this, and working in watercolour, Martin Dutton's work is based on landscapes that have a personal meaning to him as a result of childhood memories or places that he relates to, such as those around his cottage in Wales.

As usual, the exhibition is open weekdays 9am to 3pm.  For the Art Trail weekend we will be open on both Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September between 10am and 6pm.  Entrance is free.  Try to make it an art weekend and visit as many of the other exhibitions as possible.  Other Cookham exhibitors are Astrid Baerndal at 79 Westwood Green and Clarissa Galliano at 2 Gatehouse Cottages, Sutton Road: full details at http://camat.org.uk/.
