Amnesty Fun Quiz Evening a Huge Success

The Cookham and Maidenhead branch of Amnesty International held their annual fun quiz on Friday 13th October, however there was no bad luck for Amnesty, there were more people taking part than ever before, so much so that Amnesty members had even stopped trying to coerce their friends into coming along. Liz Kwantes was the Quiz Master ably supported by Nicola Jones who did a magnificent job of keeping the scores. They have good teaching at Newlands!

Nicola keeps the score

The quiz consisted of ten rounds, with a warm up fun round of anagrams. This year Mark Ashworth was the full time bar man, assisted by his wife Mary and Holly the Treasurer, who also rushed around the kitchen to help prepare supper with Chairman Janet Dawson and her friends. Janet was travelling to the Lake District on holiday that evening, so she must have been exhausted before she even started. Supper was baked potatoes with a choice of tuna, baked beans or cheese accompanied by salad. This was followed by the most magnificent selection of puddings.

Whose Winning?

There was also a raffle before the winners were announced and presented with their prizes. The winners were Sue and Phil Stacey and their team who won by a magnificent margin. Amnesty members from Reading had also attended the quiz and were so impressed asked if they could use the questions for the quiz they will be having later this year. In all over £600 was raised duding the evening, which makes the quiz evening a really good fund raiser for Amnesty.
