Amnesty Fun Quiz Evening

The Cookham and Maidenhead branch of Amnesty International held their annual fun quiz on Friday 12th October.  Liz Kwantes was the Quiz Master ably supported by Nicola Jones, in spite of feeling under the weather, who did a magnificent job of keeping the scores.

The quiz this year was called the House Quiz.  The reason for this was that each of the ten rounds pertained to part of the house, starting off in the garage and ending up in the garden, via the cellar and the bedroom. People could play one Joker which would give them double points for the round.  A titter ran round the hall when the quizmaster asked if anyone had a joker for the bedroom!!

At nine o'clock supper was served, baked potatoes with a choice of tuna mayonnaise, cheese or baked beans, some people had all three, these were accompanied with colourful salads.  This was followed by an amazing selection of gooey puddings, Viennese Torte, Black Forest Gateau, Almond Cream, Lemon Torte to name but a few.  Although it had seemed an enormous amount of food in the kitchen virtually nothing was left over apart from a small pat of butter.

There was also a raffle before the winners were announced and presented with their prizes. The winners were Gerald and Joy O'Farrell and their team who won by a magnificent margin. Joy had given a copy of her son John O'Farrell's new book as a prize for the raffle. John stood as Labour candidate for Maidenhead in the last General Election.
