The Cookham and Maidenhead branch of Amnesty International held their annual fun quiz on Friday 8th October.  Liz Kwantes was the Quiz Master ably supported by Mary Ashworth as scorer and adjudicator. One section of the quiz was related to human rights.  This pointed out that the United States were continuing to give large amounts of aid to Uzbekistan in spite of the regime torturing people by boiling them alive.   Also the Western country where judges had referred to its prisons as having a “culture of sadistic and malicious violence” and also a stunning pattern of staff assaults, abusive use of electronic stun devices, guns, beatings, and brutality, turned out to be the United States.

Mary Ashworth - the Scorer

Half way through supper was served, baked potatoes with tuna mayonnaise, cheese and baked beans, these were accompanied with colourful salads.  This was followed by an amazing selection of gooey puddings. Although it had seemed an enormous amount of food in the kitchen virtually nothing was left over apart from a small pat of butter.

The Scrum for Supper

The supper had been prepared by a willing group of Amnesty supporters, who were able to serve the meal in an incredibly short time to over seventy people.

The Kitchen Helpers

The wine flowed and judging by the noise everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves.

There was also a raffle before the winners were announced and presented with their prizes. One of the prizes was tickets to Paul O'Grady's new show, which did not prove very popular and had to be forced on someone.  The winners with 82 points were then presented with their prize.  There were some mutterings that the table had been set up by Mary Ashworth who was the scorer!!
