New Venue for Jazz in Cookham

(1 November 2001)

The fabulous Shirtlifters are spearheading a drive to get another Jazz venue up and running in Cookham.  Under the auspices of the CD Cricket Club, in particular Tony Austin, three jazz nights have been arranged, the first on Friday 2nd November and then on Friday 7th December and Friday 4th January, all at the CD Cricket Club.  There will also be a Jazz session on Friday 8th February.

We are doing this following the sad demise of the Tavern as a Jazz venue (it is still a bar/restaurant, of course) so there is something seriously lacking in Cookham!  At the moment the Band will be doing all three gigs although they hope to open it out to guests and then alternative bands.  Other local bands that come to mind are Keith Vitty's Century Jazz, the Melodic Jazz Ensemble and Swing 42 - not to mention the Backstairs Rhythm Kings.  If these first three gigs are a success then the concept will be extended into next year and, hopefully, for a long time to come.

Entry  on the door (no advanced sales) is £2.00 for Club members and £3.00 for non-members.  There is an extensive, and reasonably priced, bar and plenty of space.  We need the support of all who enjoy jazz of all kinds and who would like to see this as a regular venue to come along, hopefully on a regular basis.
