The Cookham Festival Opens

with thanks to Jeremy Wilson and Judith Diment

(12 May 2011)

Deputy Mayor Asghar Majeed launched the Cookham Festival on Wednesday at Hitachi offices on Lower Cookham Road.in front of an invited audience of 200 people. Speaking at the launch he said “ I am delighted to launch this year’s Cookham Festival, which goes from strength to strength. This year there are many new events: Shakespeare, a High Street Festival and a Fringe Festival as well as all the usual music events, drama, comedy, poetry, exhibitions, talks and the very popular Sculpture Garden and Art Trail. What is remarkable is that all the activities feature local talent, and what a lot of talent there is in the Cookham area. I congratulate Mike Copland and the organising committee for the huge amount of time spent planning this Festival and all the volunteers, many of whom are here tonight and who will help make it happen over the next twelve days. I would also like to thank Hitachi for the generous hospitality in hosting the event this evening.”

The Cookham Festival provides the opportunity for people of all ages and with a wide range of skills  to join in, express themselves and enjoy the work and performances of others in the community. The Cookham Festival is for everyone. For full programme see www.cookhamfestival.co.uk
