Saturday afternoon and the crowds start gathering for Let's Rock the Moor, the weather is warm the ice cream van is busy and the Crown pub is open for drinks.4000
people filled Cookham Moor for the biggest event of the
Cookham Festival.
From 10am the
school children of the Cookham primaries entertained the
crowds.
The crowds
took advantage of some glorious spring weather to bring
picnics and meet the friends and enjoy the great music,
stalls, human statues, big wigs, and delicious food and
drink concessions, while their kids painted the Borough's
recycling wheelie bins!
Among the many
acts the Stereosonic and Who are you tribute acts got the
crowd dancing. Local band the Quotes rocked and the Mean Red
Spiders lit up the afternoon. Between the acts the
Rock the Moor Dance skool kept the stage buzzing.
But the
appearance of Liverpool 70's band The Real Thing proved to
be the spark that set the Moor alight. A sensational
set of 70s classics had everyone singing and dancing
and
smiling. This is what we'd come for!
Curiosity
Killed the Cat - Ben - was colourful, and clearly thrilled
to be part of the show; Carol Decker from Henley, brought
her 80's magic alive with her well loved T'Pau hits.
There was a
anxious wait for headline act Rick Astley from Kingston.
Technical issues sadly cut his set short but Rick's powerful
voice lifted the crowd to a crescendo of Never Going to Give
you up! and Cookham revelled in one of the best events of
it's kind. A promise from Rick to buy everyone a drink at
the Crown was much appreciated and indeed one of the
noticeable parts of the day was the large crowds along the
causeway and at the Crown Pub enjoying the event and
being part of Cookham's great day all in aid of local
charities The Link Foundation and the Wooden Spoon!
