The second Big Friday Chill at the Crown in Cookham on Friday 17th August proved a big hit with local families. The event was organised by journalist and PR consultant, Sarah Parfitt. By lunchtime on Friday, the demand for tickets was so great that the event was completely sold out.

“We were delighted by the response to this event,” said landlord, Matt Smith. “We were amazed by the turnout – 64 children came to the event, and by lunchtime on Friday, we had to turn down phone bookings. “It was one of the sunniest afternoons of the summer which really helped too!”

Local children were treated to a fun-filled afternoon, including Sima’s Action Kids, face-painting, bouncy castles and a kids’ tea.

“It was a perfect summer’s afternoon - all of the children loved it, and their parents were able to relax and have a cool drink,” said Sima Stannage from Sima’s Action Kids. “As everyone is still on a high after the Olympics, we gave all the children special gold medals”.

Sima’s team included, face painter, Humi Iqbal and Sima’s niece, Sarah Chakaveh, who took part in the Olympics Closing Ceremony and turned up proudly wearing her special costume.

“The Big Friday Chill has been the perfect finish to a fantastic couple of weeks for me,” said 21 year old Sarah who is a journalism graduate from Maidenhead and has been one of Sima’s Action Kids crew for 7 years and regularly entertains children around the Royal Borough. She attended Redroofs Theatre School part-time from 3 to 18.

Brazilian au-pair, Dayana Moura, who was visiting Cookham for the weekend said: “This is like being in Brazil – everyone’s ready to party and it’s really hot and sunny. What more could you ask for?”
