The Cookham Festival starts on Friday 24 April until Monday 4 May 2009. In fact the organisers and their guests got together at the Parish Centre on Thursday night 23 April to get in the mood for the following two weeks of activities after months of planning and hard work.

More information on the Festival including the packed programme for the next two and a half weeks can be seen at www.cookhamfestival.co.uk

The festivities took place at Parish Centre to the background of an exhibition of Ralph Thompson, the artist who was responsible for the wonderful drawings in Gerald Durrell's animal adventure books. Ralph lived in Bigfrith in Cookham Dean for many years, before he moved to Derbyshire. Wynn Reilly will be talking about Ralph Thompson on Friday 1st May at the Parish Centre.

There are also some works of Frederick Walker an artist who painted around Cookham, but sadly died young and is buried in Cookham churchyard. Jean Hedger will be giving a talk on Frederick Walker Monday 27th April at the Parish Centre.
