Hundreds
of locals flocked to Cookham High Street on 4th June for the Diamond
Jubilee Street Party. The town was a sea of union jacks
and bunting, with both residents and visitors really embracing
the occasion.
“Today
makes me feel very proud to be British and to be a Cookhamite,” said
journalist and mother of two, Sarah Parfitt. “The organisers have done
a fantastic job.”
Asif
Farooqi, a BBC producer from Islamabad visiting Cookham for the day was
very moved by all the celebrations: “Today feels like a big family
having a huge picnic. People have been so friendly and welcoming – even
complete strangers. It is such a great feeling. I have never experienced
anything like this before. I have taken lots of pictures for my wife and
children in Pakistan.”
Local
restaurants provided some mouth-watering culinary delights and the
forecourt of Barnside Motors was transformed into a stage for the
afternoon. One of those entertaining toddlers and adults alike was Sima
from Sima’s Action Kids with high-energy dances.
