A CELEBRATION OF ARTS AND MUSIC

Wednesday 30 April 2003 - Monday 5 May 2003

 

After the successful Festival in 2001, the second Festival will be held over the May Bank Holiday week this year.

Concentrating on Arts and Music in a number of different Village locations this should appeal to a wide variety of tastes.

An exhibition in which the camera looks at our village, together with creative imagery from Desborough School.

2.  Holy Trinity Church 8pm

Young Soloists' Concert

Hear and support some of our best youg musicians.

Tickets £5, incl glass of wine/soft drink

3. Friday 2 May Moor Hall 3-8pm

Exhibition continues.

4. Pinder Hall 7.30pm

'A Muse amused'

A Revue which explores Cookham's unique relationship with the muses! Preceded by a light quiz and a heavy supper, with cash bar.

5.  Moor Hall 8-9.30pm

Digital photography workshop (A)

Can you be more creative by combining your camera and computer? Yes, you can, with a little help...

8. Odney Club 10am - 4pm

Art at Odney

Visit the Odney gardens and be inspired to paint and draw. Experts o hand to give help and advice if required. Bring a stool and picnic, and dres for the weather. (Indoors an alternative.) Some materials provided for beginners.

Admission FREE (but a piece of work for display on Monday is encouraged)

Camera at Odney

Odney gardens can provide a real source of inspiration for photographers of any skill.

10.  Parish Centre Morning

Teddy's Music Club

Great fun for pre-school children, with their parents and/or grandparents. Music, dancing, action rhymes, colouring.

Tickets £1 per child.

11.  Village 11.00am

Cookham Walk with Spencer

Two alternative walks for an hour, including private gardens in the village, with Spencer enthusiasts, finishing with lunch at Ovey's Farm.

Tickets £8 incl  lunch

12. Odney Club 2-3pm

Brass at Odney

The award winning St Sebastian Band give an open air concert.

13.  Odney Club 3pm prompt

Camera Walk at Odney

A tutored walk in the grounds, with experienced photographers to guide you. The ticket includes the cost of processing one print film, ready for display on Monday.

Tickets £5 incl the processed film.

14. Cookham Dean Village Hall 7.30pm

The Pleasure of Words

Jean Hedger hosts an evening with well-known personalities from the local area - with selections from their favourite books and poems. Share their thoughts, challenge their choices, and relax with a glass of wine.

Church Services

Holy Trinity's family service is available to all, as are the services of all the village churches.

Art and Camera at Odney

Another opportunity to create your own pictures in these delightful grounds

17. Holy Trinity School 3pm

Art and War - the Bishop's view

The Rt. Rev. Richard Harris, the Bishop of Oxford, explains art and the depiction of war from his expert knowledge of Stanley Spencer, and the Gallery exhibition of Spencer as a war artist in Glasgow.

18. Holy Trinity Church 8pm

Berkshire Youth Chamber Orchestra 

Robert Roscoe conducts music which includes Hummel's tuneful trumpet concerto, (with the young local soloist, Jack Ross) and Schubert's 3rd Symphony.

Tickets £10, £8 (numbered) and £5 (unnumbered), incl a glass of wine. (Concessions to under 16s. £2 off numbered seats.)

19. Monday 5 May Odney Club From 10am

Display at Odney

Paintings, drawings and photographs produced over the weekend can be seen in the River Room where, from midday, a free glass of wine and a cash bar will be available to help the Festival finish on a convivial note. All welcome. Work can be collected afterwards.
