Cookham in a Winter Wonderland (29th December 2000) |
|||||
|
The floods have now gone down, only to be replace by snow. Wednesday evening we went to bed with green fields around, only to wake up the next morning to find that Cookham was covered in a thick blanket of snow. Some of the minor roads were virtually impassable, but children had fun on Hockett Lane, New Road and Burnet Oak to name but a few places on their toboggans. |

Lower Road is quite passable and also the
Moor and the High Street. The pavements in the High Street have also been
salted. School Lane in Cookham Village is like an ice rink, it is
recommended to try and avoid this road.
Dean Lane is not too bad although there are some icy patches. Grubwood is dangerous and so is Hockett Lane and Winter Hill Road. People in Stonehouse Lane were unable to get to work. Church Road is very icy. Whyteladyes Lane does not seem to have been gritted, but the sun has dried up some areas and it is easy to drive down, although care should be taken. High Road is very slippery and difficult to drive down. Haldore Hill is slippery and New Road is very slippery due to the sleds. Please update webmaster@cookham.com on any other roads. |
