Stanley Spencer's Big Draw

(20 October 2003)

With thanks to David and Becky Pinnegar

Stanley Spencer’s Big Draw - part of the National Campaign for Drawing took place in the Parish Centre in Cookham on Saturday 18th October. Once again it was a huge success. New and experienced artists, young and not-so young, listened to artist Phyllida Shelley-Smith who showed examples of ‘drawing the everyday’. She used examples from Spencer’s work and her own. Then everybody went outside in the sunshine and got drawing. Models posed ‘folding sheets’, ‘raking leaves’ and ‘dusting the church’. The results were stunning and some will be on display in the Spencer Gallery.
