(with thanks to Helen and Ed for the photos)

It is the tennis and croquet season again with warm summer days ideal for knocking a ball around. It was a bit more serious though for the 29th year of the Cookham Dean Tennis and Croquet Day which was held on 28th June right in the middle of the Wimbledon fortnight.  Sixty six players took part at seven different venues for tennis and croquet.

Congratulations to the winners:

Tennis winners Russell Lloyd and Michelle Leveridge
Runners up Jonathon Ensor and Poppa Hare
Croquet winners  John Trap and Pauline Howe-Davies
Runners up Charles and Adele Weiner

Ed Gallagher from the organising committee said "This year we were able to raise £1500 for local charities thanks to our sponsors and local businesses who donated raffle prizes and also to the participation of the players who had a great day out enjoying the sport and cream teas. It is heartening that people still think of others in these difficult economic times and we look forward to another successful event next year".

The charities benefiting from the £1,500 are Thames Hospicecare, the Samaritans, Iain Rennie Nurses, Elizabeth House and Meningitis Trust
