SPONSORED SILENCE

(12 December 2004)

With special thanks to Julie Armstrong

1st Cookham Friday Beaver Colony did an excellent job  in raising money for research into the skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

On 12th November they held a 15 minute sponsored silence and raised a total of £261.00!

They learned about this condition after one of the Beavers parents alerted them to a family friend with EB, Mia Nye, who is 15 months old.

EB is  basically a rare genetic disorder that causes blisters when the skin is rubbed. There are different forms of the disease but little Mia has Herlitz Junctional, a fatal form.

Her parents Brian and Maxine came down to the Scout Hut on 10th December 2004 to thank the Beavers personally for their efforts and kindness and introduce them to their very special little girl.

If you would like to know more about this condition please go to www.debra.org.uk .

If you would like to sponsor a trip to China where there is to be a walk along the Great Wall on behalf of Mia and EB please visit www.justgiving.com/4Mia
