A
most entertaining afternoon of flute music was greatly enjoyed by
the large audience who attended the Flutiful concert on Sunday 15
May. It is not often that the combination of two flutes and a piano
are heard together which made the concert even more special. The two
flute players, Julia Bentley-Dawkes and Victoria Webb and the
pianist Jean Garrett are all highly accomplished and talented local
musicians. Their playing was brilliant and polished and they
all worked well together. The programme was varied and light, just
right for after Sunday lunch. They played pieces by Doppler, Ibert,
Telemann and many other composers and there was something in the
programme for everybody. They were enthusiastically received and for
an encore played an amazing modern jazz piece in which the flute
players sang while they played.
