Paul Hale’s
organ recital at St. John’s Church in Cookham Dean was
virtually a sellout and with good reason. Paul is
Cathedral Organist at Southwell Minster and already well-known
at St John's through previous recitals. We were
treated to a splendid variety of pieces from both well and
lesser known composers - and from the17th to the 21st century
- which demonstrated the remarkable flexibility and unique
breadth of the organ as well as the artist’s talents.
For those who
revere Mendelssohn’s church music, his Sonata No.2 was a
highlight.
And
the encore, played from a keyboard linked to to the main Nave
organ, was a lovely finishing touch.
