Posy
Simmonds, born and brought up in Cookham, came back to
give a facinating talk about her life as a, well what do
we call her - cartoonist? journalist? novelist? social
scientist? She took us through her earliest days
drawing characters and animals before working as a
freelance 'on call' cartoonist for the Sun, Guardian and
other papers. This led to her various cartoon story
series featuring her angst-ridden characters such as Gemma
Bovery and and Tamara Drewe (the latter now turned into an
award-winning film). A full house, surrounded by the
exhibition of Posy's work, prompted questions and ended up
with Posy signing copies of Tamara Drewe and also copies
of her earlier works which were brought in by members of
the audience. A delightful and fascinating session.
Thanks, Posy.
