Crime: 4 July 2007

Just a quick message to say that we have had another DISTRACTION BURGLARY, this time in Wraysbury. 3rd July 6.30 p.m. A man came to the door using the Water Board MO. The elderly women let him in, to check her water. After a few minutes he asked to use the toilet. She found him trying to get into the dresser in her bedroom. He then made off.

Please can everyone make contact with all the vulnerable elderly people who live in their roads. The Water Board is the most common MO and everyone should be really on their guard if anyone comes to their door using it. It could though be social services, a car breakdown, even the police.

Please reassure them, for the number of people that live here, these burglaries are still rare. No-one should get into their homes unless they know them or have made an appointment. Please make contact with them and help them to set passwords for any service provider that needs to come into the house to read meters.

It would also really help if they could have the telephone numbers of a few neighbours that they could call on if they are worried or concerned by a caller. It worked yesterday when someone was let in but made off when a neighbour who had been called for help arrived very quickly.

It seems we have late night / early hours visitors, doing the rounds of our rural areas.

Please be aware of this if you live in the Walthams etc. Keep your eyes open for cars acting suspiciously at those times - one driving around without lights, I would have thought was a 999 call. That way a car could immediately be dispatched to have a word with the driver.
