At
this mornings briefing the Area Commander Supt Mike Ismay asked me to put
out a request to those living in our more rural locations, to be on their
guard. Waltham St. Lawrence (again) and Cock Pole Green were targeted last
night for burglary . It is vitally important that any resident in a rural
location pays extra regard to their security for the time being. This
means both your own and your neighbours. All suspicious cars and people
should be reported to the police asap on the 0845 8 505 505 number.
The houses are presumably not selected on the spur of the moment, but some
pre planning may well have been done. That means people from outside your
villages have been there having a look around. If you see a group of
people or a car that is out of place, a description please - make, model,
colour and index of car please - many offenders use stolen cars, or cars
on fake plates and these would be immediately identified by the operator
at the PEC. The more intelligence we have, the more we can protect you.
For
example, there is a flatbed lorry out there stealing old cars from the
roadside. This is in complete public view. It is unlikely they would do
this if they saw a policeman in the area as they drive around. We must be
the public guardians to prevent crime. Please if you see anything like
this - it may be a legal collection, take the time, date, location,
description of the flatbed and its occupants together with the index
number and let us know. If the police come out and it's a legal
collection, there will be no problem.
The
police cannot be outside every house, in every street, 24 hours a day. We
can ! We can protect our communities by being aware and alert !
