Crime: 25 January 2008

I receive a daily bulletin from Police Headquarters regarding all the distraction burglaries across Thames Valley. Though we have only had one or two, they are continuing elsewhere. As police activity increases, they could displace this to us again. Please advise all your elderly or vulnerable residents, not to open the door to anyone, without using the door chain. If someone wants to come in to talk about anything, or they are asking to come in, tell them to say they are phoning a neighbour to be with them and close the door for a few minutes. That should dissuade most suspicious callers. If possible, find a few volunteers in your road, likely to be there during the day, willing to help in this circumstance. By making them safe - we make ourselves safe.
