Crime: 2 May 2008

Reported crime still low.

You will recall I asked if anyone else may have suffered a theft of central heating oil ! It appears many of you have used much more oil than normal - no evidence that it has been stolen. As a result, we would recommend you do not rely upon the gauge, but actually dip check the tank once a week to monitor exactly how much you are using. Then if suddenly there is a large drop, it should show up and your records show evidence of a crime taking place. Please also remember to dip check both before and after, any oil deliveries.

I have had another trawl through Command & Control the police computer system and am so pleased that you are phoning in, in much higher numbers. There were phone calls about men going door to door trying to sell generators and pressure washers, double glazing salesmen, people trying to change electricity suppliers, Nottingham Knockers (young 'unemployed' men going door to door selling household products, a suspicious car driving round an area at 2.30 a.m.. Thank you, these are exactly what should be reported. Suspicious cars most importantly as they could be going around looking for potential targets - and - many of us will be away over the bank holiday weekend. Please remember to set lights on timers as well as leaving a radio set to a talk radio station, set on a timer !
