Crime: 10 March 2009

Good News - I was tasked by Supt Tim De Meyer at this mornings briefing to let you know that we have just arrested 2 men regarding a burglary and one more is on our wanted list. I can also report a Mr. Kudzai Skeete, of West London was arrested by Surrey Police yesterday. He has been charged with a burglary in Surrey and a Vamoose Burglary (where a car is stolen) in Windsor last week. He was remanded to court today.

Please remember, it is sometimes a very complicated business catching burglars. They often drive here from outside our area and are therefore completely unknown to us. Without your phone calls about suspicious people in your areas, it is very hard indeed.

He also asked me to point out we have achieved an 8.5% reduction in serious acquisitive crime this year compared with last year - and - are the best performing area in the force in this regard.

2 last things:

1. Mobile phones. These are often stolen from cars and houses. please make sure you have your IMEI number to hand if you have to report your mobile stolen. This number identifies your phone and is very useful, when we bring a suspected offender into custody and check their belongings, or stop check a suspicious person late at night and ask him to hand over his mobile for checking. If your phone is stolen, phone your service provider immediately and ask them to block the SIM card and handset, making it useless to a thief. If you are unsure who to phone, you can always phone the Home Offices 'Immobilise Helpline' - 08701 123 123. While you have your phone, please register it with Immobilise anyway on that number. To access your IMEI number pump #06# into your mobile phone - then record that number somewhere safe.

Please also be aware of the possibility of your car being broken into and leave nothing visibly on display !
