Crime: 1W April 2009

we are tracking certain individuals that are well known to us, re the car crime at the moment. All the car crime yesterday used the same MO - smashed windows. Usually we have a mixture of smashed windows and forced door locks. That points to one team. They follow a route through Marlow, High Wycombe, Maidenhead, Bray and then off into South Bucks. We can arrest under a suspicion of being involved in crime. If we do arrest someone, we have the power to carry out a Section 18 House Search while they are in custody, to recover any possibly stolen items, before they can return home and hide / remove / get rid of anything incriminating. Our offenders know this and just in case they are arrested and searched on the spot, do not generally take stolen items home, but hide anything they steal in bushes, hedges or behind small electrical / telephone transformers along the roadside, close to where the items are stolen - and yesterday we did receive a call from someone to say they had seen some lads acting suspiciously routing around in bushes - now you know, what they may have been doing - recovering items they had stashed earlier. If we get a report about a crime, carry out an immediate area search and find one of our well known offenders in the area, they are immediately searched. So that they are not found with anything on them, they stash the laptops, etc in hedges, wrapped up in plastic bags to protect them from the weather for collection later when it is safer. SO - if you see anyone putting something into a hedge, we want to know. SOMETHING YOU CAN DO - look at the car crime below. If you live anywhere near any of it, check the hedges and bushes in the area for anything the thieves may have stashed - if you find a bag with something in it, phone us immediately, but leave the bag untouched - Forensic evidence is vital and you may damage fingerprints etc.

He also asked me to let you know that we have had a good result. The burglar I reported arrested yesterday, appeared in court and was remanded in custody. Another one off the street.

As you can see, these are taken from areas people stop off on their way home from work to have a drink. NOTHING LEFT ON DISPLAY PLEASE - and if you have a middle / upper management type fleet car, and you are likely as part of your job to have a company laptop - be additionally careful - it's your car the thieves are looking for !
