Crime: 2 November 2009

Halloween was very - very quiet. Only 2 houses reported as egged, both in Maidenhead. Can I thank all those that phoned the mobile number to let us know what was happening on the ground.

Windsor and Maidenhead have been hit for car crime. Loads of cars were broken into and either nothing at all or very small items stolen - sometimes small amounts of loose change in the ash tray. As a result High Viz police operations are going to be mounted in those areas. This could cause displacement. Can everyone please ensure if possible that cars are put into garages or parked in good visibility - and - most importantly for the time being at least - nothing is left on display and ash trays left open to show there is no cash left in the car for meters / car parks. As you can see even sunglasses left in the central console will attract thieves.

As you can see almost all the car crime is overnight, which generally means in the early hours. Anyone out and about between 2 - 5 a.m. acting suspiciously should be phoned through to the police immediately on the 0845 8 505 505 number. If they are simply going about their lawful business they won't mind being quizzed by the police - they may find it reassuring at that time of day that the police are out and about.
