Crime: 7 November 2009A very bad weekend for crime generally - both burglaries and car crime. Car crime generally is rather puzzling. It is the same makes and models are being targeted - hence Caroline's message last week to locate streets with high numbers of those cars, so that we can target harden them. It is those makes and models that are being targeted, rather than for the items left in them. Just looking down the list of items stolen I can see - biscuits, sunglasses, sweets, CDs, quite a few had nothing stolen ! There were a couple of SAT NAVs and IPODs, but the total value of the items stolen, was very small compared with the number of cars broken into. One possible way to stop this, is to property mark those small items which are left in cars with SELACTADNA. A sticker on the car, would I am sure deter anyone. As you know we are rolling out SAFE AS HOUSES which includes - free - SELECTADNA. The PCSO's do not have an enormous amount of time to do this so. If you have a high percentage of Volkswagens, Audis, Skodas, Seats & BMWs in your road, you may consider carrying out the property marking yourselves. You can mark valuable portable items in the houses and do the cars as well - SAT NAVs, IPODs - sunglasses ! You can mark jewellery, so why not sunglasses ? None of our opportunist thieves would imagine we would do such a thing and we know they like to steal and wear the sunglasses as trophies; such an easy way to catch them. To access the free resources of SAFE AS HOUSES, you must simply property mark the property of someone over 50. If you look at the attached form you will see what is available and how it works. If you would like to protect yourself and your road, simply email me to say how many houses you think you and your neighbours could get done and I will have the kit sent out to you. Each bottle of SELECTADNA will mark about 20 houses and cars - it really is so simple and each item only takes seconds. Please protect yourselves and your neighbours. Film footage explaining what to do is now on YouTube:http://www.youtube.com/user/JonCole100#p/u/2/E0vq1iu9FtM Looking at the burglaries below, all the items stolen could all have been marked with SELECTADNA - particularly the jewellery. Whenever we arrest a suspected thief, we carry out a Section 18 search of their house / flat and any other property they may own - lock ups etc. Generally, items like jewellery - gold chains, rings - are traditionally untraceable and thieves are more careless with them and may leave them about and not hide them away. We will find them. If they are property marked with SELECTADNA - they go down - and - you get those items back ! Please do not be a victim - A SELECTADNA sticker in your window is a simple solution of self help which is available.
