Crime: 30 November 2009
Much better weekend crime wise ! Initially, a general warning from one of our switched on co-ordinators: I am NW Coordinator in Old Windsor. This week I received an email which looked very authentic from HMRC (Inland Revenue) It said that I was due a refund, after they had checked all their records. - 'click here'. The 2nd page contained boxes asking for credit card details.
I closed the email, and rang the Tax office, who said they had a number of reports of people getting this email. When I asked if they had tried to warn people about it, the man at the tax office said no, we are trying to find out who is sending them. You have had your warning here !
This also applies to the phone calls from security companies, with which we have been inundated over the last couple of weeks. At the first inkling its one of those calls - please just put the phone down. It is unwise to tell a stranger on the phone about you house's security measures - or lack of them !!
