Crime: 13 January 2010

We have still had petty crime overnight. Inspector Pete Dalton, thinks the current weather conditions do give us a significant advantage - footprints !

Can everyone be on the alert. You may have not been burgled Nor your car attacked, but if you find suspicious footprints around your drive / garden or around your car, can you please photograph them against a ruler, so that we can assess the shoe size. The imprint is usually very detailed if the snow was fresh.

Shoe prints can be as unique as fingerprints. We take shoe impressions from our well known offenders and keep a database. Once a pair of trainers have been worn for some time, it develops a wear pattern which we can detect. You may not have suffered a crime, but it would really help us to know if or where our prolific offenders have been. As you will see below, certain roads have been targeted several times over the last week. A thief may well have looked at your car / house and thought better of it, but the footprints leave evidence. Photos to the Ringmaster intel line please:

An example from the police log:

XXXX XX was interviewed about the garage burglary, he denied it, a pair of trainers were seized from him with tread matching that found at the scene, bailed to 00/00/10 in order for footwear to be analysed.

Help us to help you.
