Crime: 19 January 2010

I am combining the message today, because we have been hit for burglaries over the last 24 hours right across both towns and we believe some of the jobs are connected.

There was a series targeting antiques and silver, which is very rare for us. Our burglaries are generally carried out by opportunist thieves who have no idea what is inside until they get in. they seem to have been targeted and must have involved a large van to take the antiques away. Also, if these properties were pre-targeted, the thieves must somehow have known what was inside. If you live in an area that has been targeted can you think about who has been out and about over say the last 3 months. They must have been inside the houses to know these items were there. This just re-enforces my message - 'No-one gets into your home, unless you know them or they have made an appointment'.

The silver lining - we have had virtually no car crime over the last 24 hours !

A bad 24 hours. It looks as if we were hit by a team operating out of Reading which drove right across the area committing daytime burglaries. If they were out and about during the day - someone must have seen them. Did you see anyone acting suspiciously, going up and down drives or driving slowly looking around. With the antiques burglaries, it would have needed several men and quite a large van.

The number as always - 0845 8 505 505 or Crimestoppers in complete confidence on 0800 555 111.
