Crime: 23 February 2010
Maidenhead has been hit badly for crime over the last week and it has shifted between, Oldfield, Belmont and over the last days Furze Platt. Police are very aware of the problem and are organising and mounting several operations as we speak. This will mean more officers on the ground and out and about. In these circumstances your calls can help enormously. If you call we will have officers to respond very quickly indeed. I cannot reveal - for operational reasons - which areas have been chosen, but if you see large numbers of police officers in an area, they are not trying to catch speeding drivers. It will be an Operation Lockdown. They may well be checking all cars and drivers, going into and out of a particular area; so if you are involved in any delays - this will be the reason.
Expensive cars are being stolen - possibly to order. If you have a performance car, you really should consider having a 'Tracker' system. Many performance cars have this fitted at the production stage and it only needs to be activated. There are several price bands to consider.
Mobile phones have been stolen in burglaries - I hope they obtained and stored their IMEI number !! *#06#. Nintendo Wii and accessories, laptops etc have also been stolen. I do hope they have the serial numbers. Jewellery will need photographs. When photographing diamond rings and things which it may be difficult to identify from other similar products, make sure you have a photograph of any scratches, worn areas and of course rings don't stay round very long when you wear them - photograph them from above. Each of these things are unique and help you to prove, the item is yours.

OLDFIELD & BRAY: 22/2 2.45 p.m. Old Mill Lane. Burglary. The owners heard the doorbell go several times, but did not answer. She moved about the house and confronted a woman, who apologised and immediately made off through a rear door. She is described as white, 5'10'', slim, medium brown hair swept / tied back, well spoken. The owner had a good look round and found a window broken in a side door. The offender had smashed the window, reached in and opened the door with the key that had been left in the lock. Nothing stolen. 10/2 - 18/2 Vicarage Walk. Burglary by unknown means - 2 credit cards, 2 driving licenses, 3 passports and a ring stolen. All were stolen from a safe. If you have a safe, do not publicise it. No-one should know you have it other than the company that fitted it. If it needs a key to open it, the key must be well hidden and not have a tag specifying 'Safe'. The thief will then know to look for one. 21/2 -. 22/2 Sheephouse Road. Car broken into via the boot - SAT NAV and laptop stolen. 19/2 Early hours Oldfield Road. Bike stolen. 21/2 1 - 8.20 p.m. Kingswood Court. Burglary through forced rear door - they then reached in and opened it - obviously secured by a rim latch (Yale type) not a mortise lock. IPOD, Nintendo Wii & accessories, laptop, jewellery, cash boxes, wallet, keys and a silver Mercedes E Class index X 927 BOD stolen. Any sightings to the intel line please. This is just the sort of car that would have a tracker fitted. The thieves may well park it up quietly somewhere where it won't stand out for 36 hours. If it is still there after that time - no tracker is fitted. If you live in an area where performance cars are prevalent keep an eye out for cars appearing parking up for 24 - 36 hours, then disappearing again. 2nd burglary in this block this month. 20/1 - 21/2 Windsor Road. Blue Porsche Boxter index R 716 PBM stolen from outside a house. The owner still has the keys. Did you see it being loaded on a breakdown truck for example ? Is it parked quietly up your road ? 22/2 - 23/2 The Terrace. Car driver's door lock forced - loose change stolen. VW Polo

That's enough for a weekend. Please remember the additional police officers on the ground - a call about lads trying car door handles or acting suspiciously could get a response very quickly.
