Crime: 24 February 2010
Those in Ascot and Windsor may not know that the police are now carrying out lockdowns of areas which, from our predictive analysis, have a high crime rate at specific times. There have been 2 so far and for operational reasons, I cannot reveal where they have been or where they are about the be held but, they do move around the area. A full report will be produced shortly. If you see large numbers of policemen, it will not be speeding checks, but ANPR - Automatic Number Plate Recognition. An area will be chosen that can be 'locked down' and contained. All cars entering the area are automatically checked against PNC using a small very discrete roadside camera (the Police National Computer database). All stolen or cars registered as suspicious ping up, as do all those without Tax, Insurance or on stolen Index plates. The cars are then pulled to one side and the driver's questioned. You will have seen similar initiatives on TV recently. Additional covert and overt police foot patrols are also organised. So far the effect has been excellent - virtually no crime in the last 24 hours !
