Crime: 19 March 2010

I have been asked to put the following message by our Comms team:

A London man has been charged with four offences in connection with an alleged robbery at Ernest Jones jewellers in Maidenhead on 23 October 2009.

Jermaine Wayne Varga, aged 21, of Tabor Road, Hammersmith, London, has been charged with conspiracy to rob, possession of an offensive weapon, possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, and aggravated vehicle taking. Varga, who is currently in custody, will appear at Slough Magistrates' Court tomorrow (19/3).

I recently put out a request for sightings of Alan King, together with a photo as he was wanted by the police. I can confirm he was sighted yesterday afternoon in the Knowl Hill area and was immediately arrested, is in custody and will be recalled to prison. The police would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance.

I have had several calls about scam Income Tax emails as it's that time of year - please be aware and never open any attachments. I have had the following email about 3 times in the last few days to my police email address - and - I do not bank with HSBC:

Just before you get to the meat of the message - think about how many of these crimes were needless - items left in cars - how many were overnight ? That means suspicious people walking about in the early hours. We are of course organising additional patrols both on foot and in cars in those areas that have suffered higher than average crime rates. As we will have additional police officers out and about, it may be to your advantage to phone us on the 0845 8 505 505 number if you see anyone out and about at that time. The police can then politely have a word with them. If they are out legitimately, there will be no problem. If they are up to no good, their 'work' will have been disrupted. Help us to make you safe at night. For example, Cookham is a small place and anyone out and about overnight 17 / 18 March must have stood out.
