Crime: 8 April 2010
Several things were raised at this mornings Briefing by Supt Tim de Meyer. Firstly - Anti Social Behaviour has dropped in the Royal Borough by 22% against this time last year. The Police, RBWM, partner organisations including all the Housing Associations and Youth Services work really closely together, using all sorts of evidence gathering techniques to achieve outcomes, which include Acceptable Behaviour Contracts and ASBOs, which can really solve the problems - particularly if we nip them in the bud. We consider ASB to be a really serious issue and hope that you would refer it to us, before it becomes a real problem and escalates. ASB can really interfere with your life and we acknowledge that. You can report it to us on the 0845 8 505 505 or the RBWM ASB Team on - 01628 796 203 / email anti.social@rbwm.gov.uk. We hold monthly ASB meetings and it helps both us and you, if we can get it on the table as soon as possible so that we can discuss it, and work out solutions as soon as possible - particularly as the warm weather and light evenings approach. The second thing was car crime. We are still being hit - particularly in Maidenhead and Tim wants every possible lead followed up and investigated fully. So he asked me to encourage you to phone through anything suspicious you may see around cars. That includes anyone trying car door handles both on roads and in car parks - that of course would be a 999 call. We want to reduce car crime and the number of you that will possibly be victims. Please work with us on this - the more you help us - the more we can help you. Yesterday we arrested a couple of offenders and carried out S. 18 house searches, recovering all sorts of items which we believe to be stolen. Several SAT NAVs are unmarked and we have no way of finding out who they belong to. I do hear at meetings that people do not bother to report these crimes. We arrest and carry out property searches all the time, recovering large amounts of property. If we can identify it as stolen, we can charge those offenders and possibly the handlers. Without a serial number, or post coding to prove it is stolen; we simply have to hand it back to the alleged offender and what is worse, we cannot charge them. SO - please report these crimes. It will increase our reported crime levels, but it really assists us to locate hotspots and streets that have been targeted. If you could list s erial numbers and postcode your property (post code plus house number or first three letters of the house name - not 'The' !), that would be an enormous benefit to both us and you. If you email your address to me, I am very happy to send a UV marker pen to you - FREE OF CHARGE - all you have to do - is use it !
