NO BURGLARIES ACROSS THE ENTIRE POLICE AREA.
Once again a joint crime update as there has been so little crime !!
First a scam warning from one of our members:
I received a phone call this afternoon from "Kevin" an online
computer problem resolution service, who said a fault had been reported
with our computer. As my computer was on-line he would talk me through
resolving it.
I was not aware that anyone in our household had reported a problem, but
equally I was not sure that they had not.
Also, it seemed unlikely that even with his help, I would be capable of
following his instructions. Also, our phone is not near the computer,
though he did say he would be prepared to wait, while I went to and fro. I
decided that as my husband would be better suited to the job, if indeed he
had reported a problem to this company. I hung up.
Might this be a scam ?
In my experience, it most likely was - just as the man on my drive
yesterday said my wife had booked an oven cleaning service, if my wife had
gone out he would probably have said I had booked it. In families nowadays
we all know these things happen. It is just too easy. Never allow anyone
to proxy your computer remotely, unless you have made contact with them
through the correct phone numbers you already have in your possession.
Don't be panicked into responding to any cold calls, without first
checking with your family.
Secondly, can I thank all those that attended last night's NHW meeting in
Ascot. The speaker was Dr Jean Barker, a police doctor, who entertained
and regaled us with tales and anecdotes about her work. If you weren't
there - you missed a wonderful evening, when we also celebrated the 10th
birthday of the Ascot NHW Association with a beautiful birthday cake !
