Crime: 19 March 2010

A couple of words to begin with:
Thefts From cars. Often I will specify 'unknown means of entry', 'car left insecure'. This means that no damage was used to enter the car. Caroline has been doing some research this morning and all the insurance companies we looked at, stated they would not accept any claims for cars left insecure and unattended. I cannot imagine leaving my car parked anywhere on the highway unlocked. On my driveway it is locked, it is just second nature. Please always make sure that whenever you leave your car, wherever it is - it is locked - with nothing left on display which could attract a thief. It could be an expensive business otherwise.

We, in the Royal Borough have increased the number of people who receive Ringmaster messages by 14.83% between November 2009 and 27th April 2010. That was an increase from 3,560 - to 4,088. Hopefully we are now keeping more people safe, by letting them know what crimes are happening in their communities at this very moment and how to prevent them from becoming a victim and just as importantly, letting you know what the police are doing in terms of arrests, increased patrols and initiatives, to stop it happening. The more people that are aware of what is going on and know to phone us when they see something suspicious, protects us all. Get everyone you know to sign up, its in our own interests. It is very simple to do. Simply go to www.tvpcommunitymessaging.org  and fill in the application form - I do the rest. Messaging is free to every resident across the entire Thames Valley, not just members of NHW and victims of crime.

Warm weather - We will soon be facing increased burglaries as soon as the warm weather approaches. Everyone must be sensible about leaving doors and windows open for ventilation - particularly at night. Never leave a ground floor window open, in any room you are not occupying at the time. Simple basic advice - but very soon you will start to see the burglaries creeping up, where people have just reached in, climbed through an open window or simply walked in through rear patio doors left open. Please do not let it be you - or anyone you know.
