Crime: 14 June 2010

Some good news - our Serious Acquisitive Crime figures are down against last year - week on week. Our car crime teams also did well arresting a prolific offender. The more intelligence you can supply us with the better we can perform and protect you and your hard earned property. Any sightings of anyone trying car door handles should be a 999 call, anyone acting suspiciously around parked cars, but you are not sure if any crime is going on - just a feeling - phone the PEC on 0845 8 505 505. We need that intelligence to target our response.

Bike marking strips - many thanks for those of you that have emailed me, I have printed off all the emails and put them in a file. The new strips have been ordered and should be with me shortly - lets get all those bikes marked, before the summer really begins. Please remember to mark your, your families, your friends and your grandchildren's bikes. You can also ta ke them into work and ask your work colleagues to do the same. Schools, Cubs, scouts, brownies, guides etc etc ! Lets protect them all. I have ordered another 1,000, I just hope I have ordered enough !

I have been speaking to Sgt Rob Dalton who is also managing a Bike Marking project. He has had form produced, on which you can record all your bikes details in the same format, as set out in police computers. It also requires a photo. As soon as these arrive I will send them out to everyone that has received the marking kits so far to complete and return. All of the new packs will get them automatically. Rob has asked that the strips be placed on the bike with the yellow sticker on the side of the cross bar, so that they are visible as you cycle. He also pointed out that if a bike similar to yours has been stolen - as we will have pictures - you may well be stopped to check the postcoding !!! We hope you will not mind.
