Crime:
21 June 2010
As a result of a lot of excellent work by police officers collating
intelligence, using predictive analysis, putting together loads of
initiatives, changing shifts to be on the area when crimes are occurring -
crimes down by 31, compared with last year.
I am always surprised by the ingenuity and really good suggestions you
come up with:
LYCRA:
Lock Your Cycle Right Away
Locking Your Cycle Reduces:
Absence, Angst, Aggro, Appropriation, Aggravation, Aggro, Annoyance,
Availability, Aches, Abuse, Apoplexy, Anger, Atrocity, Adversity,
Accusation, Agony, Arrest, Accessibility.
From PCSO Terrie Parker James - A theft -
One I really like
'Assle
I think we are going to have to go with LYCRAAAAAAAAAAHHhhh !
Other suggestions:
Its My Bike Campaign !
'ACT '- Against Cycle Theft
TACTIC - Tirade Against Cycle Theft Is Crucia l
PACT - People/Police Against Cycle Theft
IMPACT - Inhabitants of Maidenhead Protest Against Cycle Theft
FACTION - Force Against Cycle Theft Is Of Necessity
I am hoping the press will pick this up and ask for suggestions from the
public at large. We need to protect everyone's bike.
I thought you may like to hear the experience of a Parish Councillor and
the Chair of the local NHW Association in Datchet:
'I thought I'd let you know about a good result. My neighbour's house sits
in quite a large garden and is currently unoccupied. on Saturday morning I
heard banging coming from that direction, so walked round to see what was
going on, I disturbed three boys about twelve/thirteen smashing windows,
needless to say as soon as they saw me they ran.
I dialed 999, and an officer came out within 15 minutes, he said he would
have been quicker, but had taken a look around the area on his way to the
scene, to see if he could spot anyone fitting the description I gave.
After doing all the paperwork, he went and did a house to house to see if
anyone else had seen or heard anything. The Wraysbury fair was on, so he
also notified the local PCSO and Community Warden, who were attending a
stand at the fair. The PC then drove around the area and found the boys
walking up to the fair. He picked them up and escorted them home.
Fortunately the parents were none too impressed by the children's
behaviour agreed to arrange for a glazer to replace the ten smashed
windows.
A great bit of policing - the culprits caught, the damage made good, and
hopefully three boys prevented from progressing further down the criminal
path'.
The system works, if we all play our part.

19/06 6.25 p.m. Lower Boyndon Road. The owner heard a knock at his door. A
lad stood there on the phone saying 'Yes Dad, I am here. I know what has
to be fixed, I'll do it now". He then told the owner that his dad had
worked on the house some while ago and when he was on the roof, he noticed
the guttering was loose, but he forgot to fix it. He had therefore come
back to put it right. Another lad got up onto the roof and started to
fiddle with the guttering. Eventually the down pipe fell away. The first
lad tried to entice the owner away from the house to examine the pipe, but
he refused to move, telling them to leave immediately. They put the
downspout back in place and left very angrily. While the 2nd lad was on
the roof a tile was dislodged.
First lad is described as:
1. White, about 23, 5'9'', slightly stocky, fair hair wearing a red T
shirt.
2. White, but slightly darker skin tone, 23, 5'9'', slim build, darker
hair, wearing a T shirt.
Have you seen these 2 about ? Did they call on you, but you saw them off ?
You may have seen the advertisements on TV that Trading Standards are
running a Rogue Builders awareness campaign. Please remain on the alert
and phone us, if any of your elderly neighbours start to have building
work done, or a skip appears outside their house. One of our PCSO's,
Community Wardens or an officer from Trading standards, can just happen to
be walking past and discretely ask a few questions. Better safe than
sorry. We have had cases of people handing over £75,000 to rogue builders
!
