Crime:
6 August 2010
A couple of things to begin with:
1. 5/8 1 a.m. Victoria Road, Sunningdale. A neighbour reported to police
that they had seen 3 lads climbing out of a neighbour’s garden over the
fence. The police immediately carried out an area search, but no one was
located and nothing appears to have been stolen.
This is a reminder that opportunist thieves are out and about during the
early hours and we all need to be aware – locking sheds and garages, as
well as all rear accesses to our houses is sensible, if needless advice.
Our grateful thanks to that observant neighbour – we don’t
talk about ‘curtain twitchers’ / 'nosey neighbours' – but they are
really useful !
2. A co-ordinator from Maidenhead read a message about a car that had been
broken into. We had a description of the thieves as they made off. He had
seen kids matching the descriptions in Maidenhead Town centre the next day
bragging about their criminal activities – one was on bail, others just
talked about the crimes they were committing. One of their mates went into
one of the shops and a few minutes later, the police arrived and he was
taken out in handcuffs. Crime did not seem quite so amusing then and they
all went rather quiet as their mate was lead away in a rather emotional
state !!
The moral – please read the messages and think in the wider
context. NHW is not only in your house / street. Its everywhere you go. Be
observant, use those eyes and ears. Information overheard when kids brag
can be very useful.
3. How do you like the new format ? A NHW Co-ordinator who has publishing
experience asked if I could increase the size of the text as they could
not do it with their emails and - make the look more interesting. I have
had a play with it, he is going to produce a slick looking format –
let’s see what we get.
