Crime:
12 August 2010
Bikes are still being stolen in quite
large quantities, some from Windsor Town Centre in full daylight, at busy
times. Can you please keep your eyes open and pay particular attention to
Bike Wracks. If you see anyone cutting or sawing at a bike lock / chain,
please call the police immediately. A member of the Town Centre Team can
be deployed very quickly. Sgt Nindy Sidhu has organised a very swift
response the Town centre Team are all going out equipped with bike
marking strips. Everyone they meet in the Town Centre with a bike, will be
offered the opportunity to have it marked on the spot by the police. IF
YOU HAVE RECEIVED A LYCRAAAAH FORM PLEASE ENSURE YOU HAVE MARKED YOUR
BIKE, EVEN IF YOU HAVE NOT YET RETURNED THE FORM TO KEN. So far
we have only had the 2,000 or so sent out back in the dozens ! Another
copy is attached for returning to ken.revell@thamesvalley.pnn.police.uk
I have received a really good suggestion from a co-ordinator putting
the date of a crime, is not always sufficient to jog memories about what
someone may have seen could I put in the day as well. I have no idea
what I was doing or where I was on the 9th August, but I know exactly
where I was last Monday evening ! So thanks to that co-ordinator Days of
the week as well from now on !
Another good reminder from a co-ordinator recycling bins. These are
dumped all around our properties, as we rarely have the room to keep them
indoors. Please remember recycling and our wheelie bins can be used as
climbing devices to get into higher windows ! Please store them somewhere
out of sight.
A scam we have become aware of if you are part of a business. A man
checked into a local hotel, handing over a credit card as security. The
next day he said he would pay cash and racked up quite a bill. Over the
next few days the hotel became suspicious as they could not actually get a
payment from him. The police were called who did manage to get the
payment made after discussions, but it appeared he had tried this
successfully elsewhere, not paying for the services he had received
just be aware, there are scam merchants out there and be cautious. Dodgy
builders particularly - you should be getting quotations on headed paper,
with company registration and VAT numbers etc. It may appear to be a cost
saving, but it may cost more in the long run. If you are of pensionable
age, you can phone Julie Howard at Repair with Care for someone on her
Trustworthy Tradesmen list. Her list covers every service you may need.
Her number 01628 545000.
Packages left on doorsteps by the GPO, letters and free papers sticking
out of letterboxes. I have had loads of emails from co-ordinators saying
this seems to be getting worse. We in NHW have to protect our neighbours
in order to protect ourselves. Please take parcels in and leave a note,
push letters through letterboxes etc. The same for wheelie bins on bin
day. Just wheel them back onto driveways. An area with potential victims
these people are obviously not at home draws crime and thieves to
your area.
