Crime: 18 January 2011

Another request to report anything suspicious to us please. Tim De Meyer the Area Commander was at the morning briefing and asked me to put the message out yet again. We have had an attempted burglary in Sunninghill – this time by reaching up through a cat flap during the early hours to reach keys left in the door !!  KEYS MUST NOT BE LEFT IN DOORS !

Can I add to this. We have had 2 burglaries this week during the early hours, where the house owner has heard the break-in and disturbed the offender. In one case a large number of items were stolen. In each case the aggrieved went back to bed and phoned us in the morning ! We must be contacted immediately – a crime in progress is a 999 call, so that we can attend, carry out an area search and try and find / arrest the offender. 4 or 5 hours later that is impossible. That leaves the offender at large, to burgle again !

If you don’t wish to speak to us, please think about Crimestoppers:

When they saw they had been seen, they got into a white car and drove off. Thieves do not like to be seen. One of the real benefits of Neighbourhood Watch is being observant, living in a road where people are out and about at different times – protecting their neighbours, who may be out or at work. If you see anything suspicious, go and watch. Let the person know you have seen them and could give a really good description if – a crime occurs. Just go into your front garden and do some pruning or deadheading, until they have gone – it won’t take long – then phone us immediately. We have very few persistent offenders and even a patchy description, could identify someone we know and are interested in. Knowing where they are at all times during the day is vital to our intelligence teams, who are always planning operations and increased patrols.
