Crime:
11 February 2011
I have run out of time this week for a
full message and I apologise in advance. The crime in this message goes up
to Wednesday.
MAY
I POINT ONCE AGAIN – LOTS OF THE CARS TARGETED, WERE LEFT INSECURE !
The thieves simply walk along the road trying door handles. – 2 issues -
they don’t even have to break in and members of the public should be
reporting suspicious kids trying car door handles.
NEXT ! Flatbeds.
It is only when circulating House to House Enquiry forms after a crime has
been reported that we hear a suspicious flatbed – long lorries with drop
down sides / cage on the back for scrap - has been in driving slowly
around the area, looking up and down driveways. Often we hear someone has
been found on a driveway, disturbed and asked to leave – but only
afterwards, never at the time. What should happen, is you see someone off/
they drive slowly up and down your road, take a good look at them and any
van, then phone the police immediately on the 0800 8 505 505 number giving
a full report of the incident – let us be the judge of how useful that
information / intelligence is ! DON’T THINK
- PHONE !
This is from Inspector Pete Dalton
who is the Windsor Neighbourhood Inspector – but the message, is
for the whole area. I include this to show that we really do want you to
call:
The Police are requesting the
community to be vigilant, following an increase in cars stolen from the
street for their scrap metal value. Recent increases in the price of scrap
metal, have enabled criminals to profit from the theft of older cars.
Thieves normally use a recovery, or tow truck. Police are therefore
requesting the public to report any suspicious activity involving tow
trucks/ and unmarked removal vehicles on the street – particularly if it
doesn’t look like the owner is present. Where possible, record both the
car and van’s index numbers, any phone numbers on the vans and
descriptions of people involved”.
THINK PHONE – DID YOU GET A CALL FROM THESE PEOPLE OR ANYONE
SIMILAR ? DID YOU PHONE IT THROUGH ???
This is from one of our very caring case
investigators:
I was speaking to an aggrieved today, who lives in All Saints
Avenue. She was burgled on Tuesday. She mentioned that a man called at her
home last Sunday, offering to sell medals & her neighbour also had a
man & girl visit their property this week offering medals for sale.
They also spied a consul table in the hall and asked if this was for sale
!
HEALTH WARNING RE – ‘POLICE.UK’ CRIME MAPPING WEBSITE:
I am taking calls re the new ‘police.uk’ website. May I remind you:
1. The data displayed, only relates to December 2010. There will be no
maps showing crimes before that date, but January 2011 will go up soon.
2. If your house is in a road with less than 12 dwellings / postal
addresses, any crime that takes place in your road, will be plotted to the
nearest large road – that may of course mean that crimes appear in
roads, which have in fact not suffered any crime !
3. ASB figures – A neighbour dispute, in which both sides call the
police perhaps 3 or 4 times a night, day after day, will all show up as
individual calls relating to ASB. Therefore you may find a very high
number, which in fact all ties down to one ongoing Neighbour Dispute.
4. The way the site looks. The site as advertised needs a very modern
version of your Internet Browser to see it fully. If you have an old
version all you will get is a circle around a map with a street list of
crime. You will not be able to see the actual map with incident dots.
As I was at the launch with the Home Secretary and Chief Constable and we
in this area, have pioneered open and transparent information, I have been
asked by the Area Commander Tim De Meyer, to work with the site
developers, to improve it from a residents point of view. Consequently,
any suggestions as top how it could be improved would really be
appreciated.
