Crime: 7 March 2011

Firstly we have not found Bryan Hynard our vulnerable missing person, nor his car – a silver Honda Estate 4 X 4 with a roof wrack, registration plate W67 XAN. We do not believe the car has been through any of our ANPR cameras, so may possibly still be parked up somewhere very remote in the Borough. He may well have parked up somewhere the car may not be easily found. It may be sitting in plain view, unnoticed in a car park somewhere. Can everyone do whatever they can to spread this message as widely as possible. We really need to find Bryan as quickly as possible.

A bad weekend. Boyn Hill, Cox Green, Riverside & Belmont particularly targeted. Additional police patrols are being organised in those areas. The time frames of the offences are quite tight – 3 a.m. – 5.45 a.m.

We are suffering spate of burglaries across the Borough using the letterbox method. This takes 2 forms – reaching in through the letterbox with an implement to open the Yale type lock on wooden doors (thieves use a cane or similar implement to catch on the ridges of the lock, to click it open) or a crook like implement, to pull the handle back on UVPC doors. This can be prevented at a stroke, by double locking the door with a key ! Simple as that. The second method is to use a long cane or a fishing rod, through the letterbox, to hook up the keys from a hall table and extract them through the letterbox. The answer again is very simple – don’t put keys anywhere they can seen through a letterbox – certainly not left in the door ! Or fit a letterbox guard. They cost a pound or so and only need 2 screws !

I have been asked to put this out by the Borough:
