Crime: 17 June 2011

I am very pleased to announce that last Friday, I attended the launch of a new sponsorship deal with Ascot Racecourse, The Michael Shanly Group and Legoland to protect and fund Community Messaging for the local community. Supt Tim De Meyer the Area Commander feels it is an essential tool in his fight against crime across the area and when it became apparent that due to possible cuts, it may possibly be under threat, he went out and spoke to local businesses to see if it could be protected. He has been successful and the necessary funds raised.

I am sure I can thank Ascot Racecourse, The Michael Shanly Group and Legoland on your behalf.

Appeal for information after £20,000 of copper cable stolen in Windlesham

Surrey Police is appealing for information after telecommunications cabling worth approximately £20,000 was stolen in Windlesham.

The theft took place overnight between Tuesday 14 June and Wednesday June 15 along New Road. Thieves took around 500 metres of cable causing telephone lines to be disrupted.

Neighbourhood Police Sergeant Jonathan Castell said: “Lead and copper wiring is very attractive to thieves because of the high scrap value. A large amount of wiring was taken in this incident which would have required some time to steal and a vehicle to transport it. As a result of this theft hundreds of residents in the Windlesham area have no phone lines. BT is in the process of replacing the cabling and hope to restore services as soon as possible.”

“I am asking anyone who saw any suspicious activity along New Road on the night of June 14 to contact police and reminding members of the public to stay vigilant and report any behaviour which causes them concern including groups of workmen operating at unsociable hours.”

Anyone with information should contact Surrey Police on 0845 125 2222 quoting reference SH/11/2937.
