Crime: 24 June 2011

A good end to the week. Please do not make simple mistakes with your security. Going to bed and forgetting to lock up at night is simply asking for trouble. Please make it as hard as possible for a thief to steal your property. They want an easy, quick crime. Walking in rather than breaking in makes their lives so much easier - and they leave much less evidence of their presence for us to follow up. A broken as opposed to a forced window can be a particular MO of a known offender, a forced window means it was not X, Y or B, who smash windows. The harder it is the more of a trail they leave.

I went to a really good and productive NHW meeting last night in Bexley Street Windsor. Jacqui and Sandra, are doing a brilliant job organising events, projects and writing newsletters - I circulated Sandra's newsletter last week, as an excellent example of the genre. They do need the help - just as every co-ordinator out there will tell you - of other members of the scheme, to make sure it is as effective as possible. We - more quiet members of schemes - do take a back seat and leave it to them, taking it for granted that one or two people / a small team - there were 3 last night, will spend their valuable time looking after the rest of us. We rely on their drive and commitment. Unfortunately, if we continue to hold back and leave everything to them; they will eventually walk away. We all need to be involved in making our own streets a better place to live - work and play. People like Jacqui and Sandra are happy to come forward, give their time and take a lead. BUT, they need the rest of us to come forward when asked for help !!! Here endeth the lesson.

CRIME:
BISHAM, COOKHAM, HURLEY, THE WALTHAMS, LITTLEWICK GREEN & KNOWL HILL:

22/6 – 23/6 Wednesday 9.15 p.m. / Thursday 8.30 a.m. Harding’s Green, Cookham. Garage break – nothing stolen.

BOYN HILL, COX GREEN & WOODLANDS PARK:
16/6 – 23/6 Barn Drive, Cox Green. A substance has been poured over the grass in someone’s garden killing it.

RIVERSIDE & BELMONT:
23/6 Thursday 3.30 p.m. / 10.40 p.m. Cookham Road. Burglary. It is believed the thief entered through rear garden by climbing onto garage roof, dropping into the garden – attempt to jemmy rear kitchen window, thief then forced UPVC kitchen door – expensive jewellery stolen. Whenever I hear jewellery stolen from a master bedroom…..You know the message. No jewellery left in jewellery boxes on dressing tables, nor in the bedside cabinets. It must always be hidden, where it would take a thief more than 5 minutes to find. You know your house best, where that would be – but you must remember where you have hidden it. Once it is gone – its gone. What often causes more upset than expensive jewellery, which is generally covered by Insurance, is the small sentimental items of little monetary, but enormous family value.

INNER MAIDENHEAD:
No crime to report.

OLDFIELD & BRAY:
No crime to report.

PINKNEYS GREEN & FURZE PLATT:
23/6 Thursday Thicket Meadows, Newlands Drive. A witness saw a group of lads trying to set shrubs alight. As we all know from recent experience, this is a very dangerous thing to do. If you know who those kids were, we would be interested. The Fire service run all sorts of courses, for kids who have a fascination for fire.
