Crime:
23 August 2011
We
have seen a small increase in general crime recently. This is partly due
to several of our most prolific offenders all being released from prison
at the same time. We and now you kow they are out and about again. That
puts the responsibility on us, not to put temptation in their way. We must
help them to stay on the correct path. The
more difficult it is to offend, the less likely they are to do it
SO First rule - please lock your cars
when you leave them. We are receiving reports from NHW Members that they
have seen youths walking along parked cars, trying car door handles. If
the car is open, they will look inside to see if there are any
easy pickings, so the Second rule
leave nothing on display. A jacket may contain a wallet, a plastic bag may
contain something of value, a sports bag, trainers etc etc. You know it
makes sense.< br /> Next, can everyone
lock their houses at night when they go to bed ? Sounds pretty
basic crime prevention advice, but it appears necessary. The best crime
prevention tool is an alarm. Our opportunist thieves know nothing about
alarms and will avoid them. If you have one you must remember to set
it at night and whenever you go out just make it a habit. Soapbox over
!
A member of our Old Windsor NHW,
phoned the police during the early hours over the weekend, to say they had
seen a car driving around, acting suspiciously. Fortunately - being well
trained and informed via Ringmaster - they knew to take the index number.
The police attended immediately but could not locate the car. They
attended so quickly, because the car was registered on the Police National
Computer (PNC) as suspicious ! It already had 2 markers against the index,
showing it had been seen before in suspicious circumstances. Rely on your
instincts, they are always correct - they come from way back in our
genetic background, when we really needed them. Now we tend to disregard,
what we have been given, to keep ourselves safe. Thank you from us all to
that person !
