Crime: 2 September 2011

We had a car ENTERED BY UNKNOWN MEANS in Windsor. As you will have seen from recent messages, a lot of cars are being broken into BY UNKNOWN MEANS. I say this, when the cars have been entered and there is no damage to the locks. The implication is of course – the car was left Insecure / unlocked – Insurance companies will therefore refuse to pay out. There are signal blockers which thieves can use to prevent you locking your car, but once locked, they cannot be used to open the car. The blockers simply jam the signal to your car, with another signal on the same frequency. This confuses the car – which does nothing. When locking your car with a fob, you must make sure the signal has been accepted – this is very easy to determine – the car lights flash and some cars bleep. If the lights don’t flash – the car isn’t locked. If you attempt to lock the car a couple of times and it doesn’t flash, you must manually lock your car. Never just reach over your shoulder with your fob and zap your car. Please check every time. As I have said – kids walk along rows of parked cars trying car door handles – if they find one open, they will search it – please don’t let it be yours – it is so simple to prevent !
