First
a witness appeal:
Thames Valley Police is appealing for
witnesses after an attempted rape in Maidenhead on Tuesday night.
Just before midnight, a 42-year-old woman was walking along an alleyway
which links Grenfell Road to Kings Grove. As she reached the middle of the
alleyway near the railway bridge, a man approached her from behind.
He pushed her to the floor and demanded sex. They heard a noise nearby and
the man ran off towards Boyn Valley Road. The woman ran onto Grenfell Road
and flagged down a passer-by for help.
The victim sustained minor injuries in the incident.
There is no description available of the offender at this stage.
Det Sgt John Slater, investigating the incident, said: “Fortunately the
victim was not seriously injured in this incident, which is being treated
as an attempted rape”.
“A number of lines of enquiry are underway. However, I am keen to speak
to anyone who was in the area of Grenfell Road and Boyn Valley Road at
that time, who may have information which could help with the
investigation.”
Supt Tim De Meyer, Local Area Commander, said: “I would like to reassure
residents that incidents of this nature are very rare in the Royal Borough
and a team of detectives are working extremely hard, to catch the man
responsible.”
Anyone with any information which may help officers with their enquiries
should contact Det Sgt Slater via the 24-hour Police Enquiry Centre on
0845 8 505 505 - quoting URN 1575 of the 6th September. If you don’t
want to speak to police or leave your name, call Crimestoppers on 0800 555
111.
Second some GOOD NEWS:
Burglar sentenced – Maidenhead
A man who burgled a house in Maidenhead has been jailed.
Shanon Perry, aged 25, of St Patricks
Close, Maidenhead, was sentenced to 16 months in prison, at Reading Crown
Court on Friday 2 September.
Between the hours of 2am and 6am on Monday 28 March, Perry broke into a
house in Cranbrook Drive, Maidenhead, while the occupants lay asleep
upstairs. He stole a 40in television, a laptop, and a handbag, which
contained various contents including a bank card.
At 7.12am the same morning (28/3), attempts to withdraw cash using the
stolen bank card were made at an ATM machine in Wootton Way, Maidenhead.
The withdrawals were unsuccessful.
As part of the police’s investigation, CCTV footage of the area where
the attempted withdrawals were made, was viewed and Perry was seen to use
the cash point around the time of the incident.
Perry was arrested at an address in Fane Way, Maidenhead on Friday 8 April
2011 and later charged in connection with the burglary. He later pleaded
guilty to the offence during a court hearing.
Another man was arrested in connection with the burglary, but was later
released without charge.
The occupants of the house burgled, who would like to remain anonymous,
said: “We are really pleased with the sentence and the way in which the
police investigated our burglary. The service provided to us by those
officers who attended our house initially, to the investigating officer,
was second to none.”
Det Con Reese Williams, officer in the case, said: “I am pleased with
the sentence given to Perry, which should act as a deterrent, to those who
chose to commit burglaries in the Royal Borough.”
Next something NHW neighbours can help
with:
Hi Jeffrey,
‘A firm called XXXX Removers has just put a card on my front door,
wedging it behind the knocker, rather than putting it through the
letterbox. If I had been away on holiday, it could have stayed there for a
week or two, advertising to every passing opportunist thief that the house
was empty.
I’d be grateful if you would give the company a ring and tell them not
to endanger people’s security in this way – they are much more likely
to take notice of a call from the Police than one from a member of the
public.
Stephanie.
I was very happy to do that. If you see this sort of situation in
your road – it may well be Yellow pages directories left by people’s
front doors, charity bag deliveries etc, please take them in !
